Social inequality is a condition where there is something unbalanced in people’s lives. Social inequality is one of the big problems in Indonesia, especially in the legal sector, even now there are still many people who are trying to speak out to get justice in the law. The absence of balance in law enforcement, unequal access to justice, and reduced public trust in the application of the law are negative impacts of social inequality in the application of the law for indonesian citizens.

First, social inequality often creates inequality in law enforcement, where the law tends to be harsher on the lower class and lighter on the upper class. This can be seen from the many cases where the lower class is more easily caught in the law, while perpetrators from the elite tend to get away with it or get a lighter sentence. for example, data from the judicial commission (2022) shows that defendants from the lower economic class receive more maximum prison sentences than those from the upper class in cases with similar violations. This inequality proves that there is unequal legal treatment for indonesian citizens.

Secondly, social inequality also to justice for underprivileged citizens. Many poor communities lack the financial means to pay for legal services, resulting in inadequate legal representation during judicial procosses. According to a 2021 report by the Jakarta legal Aid institute (LBH), only around 30% of law income individuals were able to obtain legal assistance when facing legal proceedings. This disparity demonstrates that the legal system still tends to favor those with economic resourees, meaning that access to justice is not yet evenly distributed across all layers of indonesian society.

Thirdly, when the law favors only certain groups, the general public will begin to lose trust in a legal system, that is supposed to be fair and impartial. This can be Seen From the results of a 2023 survey by indikator Politik indonesia, which showed that only 47,8% of respondents believed that the law in Indonesia is enforeed fairly. This law level of trust leads to public indifference toward the law. an increase in vigilante actions, and legal instability. When people no longer trust the law, the main purpose of the legal system to protect and ensure justice for all citizens fails to be achieved

Thus, social inequality is indeed one of the big problem that has a negative impact on the implementation of law in Indonesia. Imbalance in the implementation of law, limited access to justice, and reduced public trust in the implementation of law are clear evidence that the law has not been completely fair to all citizens. Therefore, further steps are needed to reduce social inequality in order to create a more equitable legal system that can be trusted by all levels of indonesian society.
