Social media is a digital flatfrom to share information message entertainment and connect online, while adolescent deal with pressure in everyday life although social media offers many benefits i can also have a negative impact on adolescent mentality social pressure, self comparison and sleep disorders. insecurity there for I realized that social media can have negative influence on the distruption on the distruption of adolescent mental health.

Firstly, social media has a significant negative impact on social pressure among teenagers. Through platforms like Instagram and TikTok, teenagers often feel pressured to show a perfect self-image, follow certain trends, or gain validation in the form of “likes” and positive comments. This creates unrealistic social standards and encourages too much social comparison. According to a study from the Journal of Adolescence (2019), heavy use of social media relates to higher levels of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem in teenagers. The pressure to stay active online can lead to mental exhaustion and feelings of not being good enough compared to others. As a result, many teenagers experience mental health problems such as stress and social isolation.

Secondly, social media negatively encourages excessive self-comparison among teenagers, which seriously affects their mental health. On platforms like Instagram or Snapchat, teenagers often compare their appearance, lifestyle, and achievements to other people's posts, which are often carefully edited and selected. Research from the University of Pennsylvania (2018) shows that the more teenagers use social media, the more likely they are to feel jealous, dissatisfied with themselves, and depressed. This self-comparison makes teenagers feel less valuable, unattractive, or socially unsuccessful, which leads to anxiety and lowers their self-confidence.

Thirdly, Excessive use of social media clearly causes sleep disturbances among teenagers, which directly affects their mental health. Teenagers often use their phones late at night, tempted by notifications or the urge to stay socially connected. A study from the Sleep Foundation (2021) shows that screen exposure before bedtime blocks the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls the sleep cycle. As a result, sleep becomes poor and irregular. This lack of sleep leads to chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and a higher risk of depression and anxiety.

It can be concluded that social media has a significant influence on adolescent mentality especially in term of social pressure, self comparison and sleep disorders excessive use cab trigger anxiety, low self esteem and health problem, teenagers need to be wise in using social media and maintain adequate rest time.
