The Negative Impact of HIV On The Physical Health of Adolescents in Indonesia

The Negative Impact of HIV On The
Physical Health of Adolescents in Indonesia
By : Citra Tamara Tresia
Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the human immune system, partyculary CD4 cells, making the body vulnerable to various infections and diseases. Adolescents are individuals aged between 10 and 19 years old, a transitional proid from chilhood to adulthood marked by physical, emotional, and social changes. Physical health in adolescents refers to the optimal condition of the body in perfoming biological and motor functions, as well as being free from diseases that hinder growth and daily activites. I agree that the HIV virus has a signifikan negative impact on adolescents physical health. This can be seen from various symptoms and physical complications experienced by adotescents living with HIV, such as:

  • Dratic Weight Loss
  • Skin Problem
  • Prolonged Fatigue

First, teenagers infested with HIV tend to experience sginifikan weight loss due to a weakened immune system. HIV attacks CD4 cells, which funetion to protect the body from infections making it harder for the body to fight of diseases. This condition leads to metabolic disorders and a decreased appetite, which ultimetly result in substantial weight loss. According to the Wolrd Health Organization (WHO) HIV wasting syndrome is one of the common symptoms of HIV infection, especially if antiretroviral  treatment is not receveid in a timely manner. This weight loss is particulary dangerous for teenagers because it can hinder their physical growht and development, wich naturally occurs during pubery.

Second, skin problem are one of the physical effects often experienced by teenagers with HIV. The weakened immune system caused by HIV makes the body more susceptible to fungal, viral, and bacterial infections that affect the skin. As a result, teenagers living with HIV often experience rashes, wounds that are slow to heal, white patches in the mouth (candidiasis), and recurring skin infections. Based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 90% of people living with HIV experience skin disorders during the course of their illness. These skin problems not only cause pain or discomfort but also affect teenagers’ self-esteem and can impact their psychological well-being.

Third, prolonged fatigue is another common symptom experienced by adolescents with HIV, even when they are not engaging in strenuous activities. This fatigue is caused by various factors, including opportunistic infections, anemia, metabolic disorders, and side effects of antiretroviral medications. According to AIDSinfo.nih.gov, chronic fatigue in people living with HIV can disrupt daily activities and reduce overall quality of life. For teenagers, this has a serious impact because it can interfere with their learning process, social activities, and emotional development. If not managed properly, this fatigue can worsen both physical and mental conditions simultaneously.

In conclusion, HIV has a severely negative impact on the physical health of teenagers in Indonesia, such as weight loss, skin problems, and even prolonged fatigue experienced by those living with HIV. HIV can spread due to a lack of education among Indonesian youth who are not yet aware of the effects and causes of HIV

Flooding In Several Places In The City of Palangka Raya

Flooding In Several Places In The City of Palangka Raya
By : Cicelia Octavia Ayu Puspaningsih
Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

Flooding is a natural disaster that occure due to heavy rainfall. As a result of heavy rainfall, water cannot be absorbed quickly by the soil. Lately, rainffal in the city of palangkaraya has been high.this rainfall causes the city of palangkaraya to be flood. There ar spots affected by these factors,  such as highway,  houses and shops. The flooding occure due to the folowing factors, namely : careless waste disposal, blockages in the ditches, and lowlands. Therefore,  from these theree factors, it is true that there is flooding in several places in the city of Palangka Raya.

First, carreles waste disposal is the behavior or habit of some one disposing of waste in anapproriate places, such as throwing trash into ditches,  on the roadside, or into rivers,  which can ruin the scenory.

Second, lockages in the ditches is a condition where the ditch cannot channel water properly due to being blocked by trash that is carelessly discarded. This causes unpleasant odors and turns the ditch into a breeding ground for mosquitoes, insect, and other animals that can spread disiase, making anyone passing by feel uncomfortable.

Last, lowlands areas in residential neighborhoods are housing areas located in low-lying terrain, making them prone to flooding. Floods can occure because the ground level is higher than the houses,  which slows down water absorption and causes puddles or significant flooding. Even the existing drainage ditches cannot handle the volume of rainwater, as rainwater accumulating in low-lying areas fills the ditches and slows dow the water flow.

Lately, rainfall in the city of Palangka Raya has been high, which has become a problem. It can disrupt people's activities,  and flooding in palangkaraya frequenty occrus and keep repeating. This is also caused by the high rainfall, especially in lowlands areas,  where the ground level is higher than the houses,  making it difficult for the soil to absorb rainwater quickly. However, flooding is not only caused by low-lying areas but also by human behavior for example : careless waste disposal or habit of some one disposing of waste anopproriate pleaces, blockages in the ditches channel water properly due to being blocked by trash that is carrelesly discarded. Because of being obstructed by garbage, causing the drains to become clogged. Therefore,  we as members of the community must care about our environment by reducing harmful behaviors.this is also for the common good, to reduce obstacles to people's daily activities.

Is The HMPV Virus The Same As Covid-19?

Is The HMPV Virus The Same As Covid-19?
By : Helena Evangelista Octaviani
Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

There is currently a lot of discussion about the HMPV virus which spread in China and has been found in Indonesia. Everyone is scared because the HMPV virus attacks the respiratory system like covid-19, but in reality it doesn't. The human metapneumovirus or HMPV virus is a type of infectious viral infection of the respiratory system whose symptoms are the same as the common cold and most of the patient are children. Most people think the HMPV virus comes from China. In fact, the HMPV virus is an old virus that came from Europe. I disagree, because there are three things that differentiate between HMPV and covid-19. That is symptoms, target of transmission, as well as different prevention and treatment.

The first thing that differentiates the two viruses is the symptoms experienced by patients. HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) presents common symptoms such as cough, runny nose, mild fever, shortness of breath, and sore throat, with more severe symptoms including pneumonia and bronchiolitis. On the other hand, COVID-19 typically presents with fever, muscle aches, fatigue, and loss of smell and taste as common symptoms, while severe symptoms may include severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress, and organ failure.

The second difference between the two viruses is their transmission targets. The target population or the group of people most vulnerable to HMPV infection includes infants, children, and the elderly. This is because infants and children have underdeveloped immune systems, while the elderly have weakened immune responses. In contrast, COVID-19 primarily affects individuals with weakened immune systems, those with underlying health conditions, and the elderly, due to reduced immune responses and declining organ function.

The third difference is in prevention and treatment. HMPV can be prevented through handwashing, wearing masks, and practicing proper coughing etiquette. It has no specific treatment and is managed with supportive care only. COVID-19, however, can be prevented with vaccination and good room ventilation, and can also be treated with antivirals such as Paxlovid and Remdesivir.

Currently, there is widespread discussion about the HMPV that is spreading in China and has also been found in Indonesia. It is often mistaken for the COVID-19 virus. Based on the statements and arguments above, there are three things that differentiate between HMPV virus and COVID-19, that is the symptoms experienced by patients, the target of transmission, as well as the prevention and treatment methods. Therefore, to protect ourselves from both viruses, we can maintain hand hygiene, always wear masks in public places, strengthen our immune system, and get vaccinated as a preventive measure to increase personal awareness.

The Negative Impact of Social Inequality in The Implementation of Law for Indonesian Citizens

The Negative Impact of Social Inequality in
The Implementation of Law for Indonesian Citizens
By : Afrilia Legista Putri
Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

Social inequality is a condition where there is something unbalanced in people’s lives. Social inequality is one of the big problems in Indonesia, especially in the legal sector, even now there are still many people who are trying to speak out to get justice in the law. The absence of balance in law enforcement, unequal access to justice, and reduced public trust in the application of the law are negative impacts of social inequality in the application of the law for indonesian citizens.

First, social inequality often creates inequality in law enforcement, where the law tends to be harsher on the lower class and lighter on the upper class. This can be seen from the many cases where the lower class is more easily caught in the law, while perpetrators from the elite tend to get away with it or get a lighter sentence. for example, data from the judicial commission (2022) shows that defendants from the lower economic class receive more maximum prison sentences than those from the upper class in cases with similar violations. This inequality proves that there is unequal legal treatment for indonesian citizens.

Secondly, social inequality also to justice for underprivileged citizens. Many poor communities lack the financial means to pay for legal services, resulting in inadequate legal representation during judicial procosses. According to a 2021 report by the Jakarta legal Aid institute (LBH), only around 30% of law income individuals were able to obtain legal assistance when facing legal proceedings. This disparity demonstrates that the legal system still tends to favor those with economic resourees, meaning that access to justice is not yet evenly distributed across all layers of indonesian society.

Thirdly, when the law favors only certain groups, the general public will begin to lose trust in a legal system, that is supposed to be fair and impartial. This can be Seen From the results of a 2023 survey by indikator Politik indonesia, which showed that only 47,8% of respondents believed that the law in Indonesia is enforeed fairly. This law level of trust leads to public indifference toward the law. an increase in vigilante actions, and legal instability. When people no longer trust the law, the main purpose of the legal system to protect and ensure justice for all citizens fails to be achieved

Thus, social inequality is indeed one of the big problem that has a negative impact on the implementation of law in Indonesia. Imbalance in the implementation of law, limited access to justice, and reduced public trust in the implementation of law are clear evidence that the law has not been completely fair to all citizens. Therefore, further steps are needed to reduce social inequality in order to create a more equitable legal system that can be trusted by all levels of indonesian society.

The Negative Influence of Social Media on Adolescent Mental Health

The Negative Influence of Social Media
on Adolescent Mental Health
By : Agnikia Alkheira
Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

Social media is a digital flatfrom to share information message entertainment and connect online, while adolescent deal with pressure in everyday life although social media offers many benefits i can also have a negative impact on adolescent mentality social pressure, self comparison and sleep disorders. insecurity there for I realized that social media can have negative influence on the distruption on the distruption of adolescent mental health.

Firstly, social media has a significant negative impact on social pressure among teenagers. Through platforms like Instagram and TikTok, teenagers often feel pressured to show a perfect self-image, follow certain trends, or gain validation in the form of “likes” and positive comments. This creates unrealistic social standards and encourages too much social comparison. According to a study from the Journal of Adolescence (2019), heavy use of social media relates to higher levels of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem in teenagers. The pressure to stay active online can lead to mental exhaustion and feelings of not being good enough compared to others. As a result, many teenagers experience mental health problems such as stress and social isolation.

Secondly, social media negatively encourages excessive self-comparison among teenagers, which seriously affects their mental health. On platforms like Instagram or Snapchat, teenagers often compare their appearance, lifestyle, and achievements to other people's posts, which are often carefully edited and selected. Research from the University of Pennsylvania (2018) shows that the more teenagers use social media, the more likely they are to feel jealous, dissatisfied with themselves, and depressed. This self-comparison makes teenagers feel less valuable, unattractive, or socially unsuccessful, which leads to anxiety and lowers their self-confidence.

Thirdly, Excessive use of social media clearly causes sleep disturbances among teenagers, which directly affects their mental health. Teenagers often use their phones late at night, tempted by notifications or the urge to stay socially connected. A study from the Sleep Foundation (2021) shows that screen exposure before bedtime blocks the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls the sleep cycle. As a result, sleep becomes poor and irregular. This lack of sleep leads to chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and a higher risk of depression and anxiety.

It can be concluded that social media has a significant influence on adolescent mentality especially in term of social pressure, self comparison and sleep disorders excessive use cab trigger anxiety, low self esteem and health problem, teenagers need to be wise in using social media and maintain adequate rest time.

The Negative Impact of Juvenile Deliquency

Accepted Date : 23 May 2025

Juvenile deliquency refers to behavior that deviates from societal norms and rules, as well as violates the law. In my opinion, Juvenile deliquency is crucial to address because it has negative cosenquences for teenagers, such as damaging their reputation and that of their family, potentially leading to social isolation, and ruining their future.

The first impact is damaging their reputation of the teenager and their family. Juvenile deliquency is a negative action. Therefore, if a teenager commits such actions and the information about the deliquency spreads quickly among the public, it will lead to negative public perception.

The second impact is that the teenager mau be avoided by their peers. This happens because the spread of information and the negative views from society can reach the school enviroment, causing the teenager's friends to feel afraid and unwilling to associate with them, leading to social isolation.

The final impact, is that iy can be destroy the teenager's future. Juvenile deliquency can be reduce their chances of getting a good job, pursuing higher education, and achieving succes in the future.

Therefore, it is important for teenagers to understand the negative impact of juvenile deliquency, as it damage their reputation and that of their families, lead to being avoided by their peers, and potentially destroy their future. Teenagers are also expected to work together to prevent and address juvenile deliquency for a better future.

Broken home is a condition where a family experiences a disharmony. A broken home becomes a serious problem that can affect the development of teenagers. When the family structure is broken,  teenagers often become the main victims of the situation. They may experience emotional problems, have difficulty adapting, and lose their self confidence.

First, a broken home often causes emotional problems. Teenagers can feel angry, depressed, or stressed. They find it hard to focus at school or in daily activities.

Second, they have difficulty adapting to new situations. For example, if they have to live with only one parent or more to a new place, the feel uncomfortable and afraid

Third, teenagers can lose their self confidence. They think that the family problem is their fault. As a result, they become shy and do not want to talk to other people.

A broken home can give a bad impact on teenagers mental health, such as unstable emotions, difficulty in adapting, and loss of self confidence. Therefore, parents should still give attention and emotional support to their children. Talk to them so they don’t feel alone.

Preservation Of Traditional Culture In The Digital Era

Preservation Of Traditional Culture
In The Digital Era
By : Davisha Aurilatia

Preservation is the effort to keep something so it still exists and does not disappear, like protecting culture from damage or extinction. Traditional culture is hobits, arts, or values that are passed down from generation to generation. The digital era is the time when technology like the internet and social media influences how people communicate and find information. I agree that preserving traditional culture in the digital era is very important. Technology can be used to protect cuttural heritage, increase public understanding about traditional culture, and also promote and introduce traditional culture to the young generation and to the world.

First, technology can help preserve cultural heritage. Many traditional culture are starting to be forgotten due to a lack of documentation. With the help of technology, we can store different forms of culture such a traditional dances, regional music, folklore, traditional Clothing, and cultural ceremonies in digital form. For example, traditional dance videos can be uploaded to youtube, or folk storres can be written in blogs. This way, culture stays alive and can be accessed anytime.

Second, technology increase people's understanding of traditional Culture Cultural information that used to be known only by certain groups can now be accessed by everyone through the internet. Schools, communities, and individuals can create educational content about culture and share it on social media. This helps more people, especially the younger generation, become aware of and understanding the importance of preserving culture.

Third, technology makes it easier to promote and introduce culture to young people and the global community. Young people are more interested in visual and interactive things. By creating engaging cultural content such as short videos, infographies, or animations we can make them more interested in learning about their own culture.

In Conclusion, technology has an important role in preserving traditional culture. With technology, we can save culture in digital form, Increase public understanding, and promote culture in an interesting way. Therefore, we must use technology in a positive way so that traditional culture stays alive and is known by the younger generation and the world. Preserving culture is a shared responsibility and technology can be a very helpful tool in this effort.

Injustice in the Application of Law: The Main Cause of Legal Inequality and Harm to Society

Injustice in the Application of Law: The Main
Cause of Legal Inequality and Harm to Society
By : Maghfirotu Alfina Fithriani
Accepted Date : 22 May 2025

Injustice in the application of the law is a serious problem that continues to occur. Injustice in the law occurs when a rule is not applied evenly, thus threatening public trust in the legal system. This can be seen from various factors, such us the provision of light sentences in corruption cases, differences in treatment based on economic status, and the many unresolved legal cases due to a lack of efforts in justice. Therefore, i believe that injustice in the application of the law is the main factor that causes legal inequality and harms society.

Firstly, light sentences in corruption cases are the most obvious form of injustice. Corruption that harms state finances and public services often only gets sentences that are far from proportional. For example, data from the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) in 2023 shows that the average sentence for corruption offenders was only 3 years 4 month, with many cases receiving sentence reductions. A concrete example is the bribery case of the Riau-1 PLTU project involving Idrus Marham, the former secretary general of the Golkar party. The initial sentence was 3 years, then increased to 5 years, but the supreme court later reduced it to 2 years after cassation appeal. These light sentences create the impression that the law can be manipulated by the powerful and wealthy, thereby diminishing public trust in the legal system.

Secondly, the injustice becomes even more evident in the  unequal treatment under the law based on a person's economic status. Outside of corruption cases, many instances show that the law in Indonesia is harsher on the lower. Class citizens, while perpetrators from higher economic backgrounds often receive lighter treatment or even escape legal proceedings entirely. One example is the case of grandma Asyani, a poor 63 years old woman from East Java, who in 2015 was sentenced to one year in prison with a 15 month probation period and fined 500 million rupiah for allegedly stealing seven teak logs owned by the state forestry company, perhutani. In fact the wood was cut down by her late husband from land they believed to be their own, yet the legal process still proceeded. A 2023 report by Kompas highlighted that access to quality legal aid is still dominated by the wealthy, making the poor more vulnerable to unfair legal processes. This shows that the legal system tends to favor those with economic power.

Lastly, the injustice is worsened by the large number of unresolved legal cases due to weak justice enforcement. Many major cases have stalled due to political interference, lack of evidence, low integrity among law enforcement officers. For example, the murder case of environmental activist Munit Said Thalib has remained unresolved for nearly to decades providing no justice for the victim and their family. In addiction, a 2023 report from the commission for the disappeared and victims of violence recorded more than 75 cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings that remained unresolved. This situation reinforces the perception that the law is sharp toward the weak but dull toward the powerful.

From the explanation above, it is clear the injustice in the application of law is a serious ongoing problem. Light sentences in corruption cases, unequal treatment based on economic status, and unresolved cases are evidence that the law is not being applied fairly and equally. If left unchecked, this situation will continue to erode public trust worsen legal inequality and harms society.

Accepted Date : 22 May 2025

Mental health disorders are a series of conditions that can affect daily life.  mental health disorders in adolescents are increasing and becoming a serious problem that needs attention. I believe that mental health disorders in adolescents can cause difficulty in controling emotions, which is worse by lack of physical activity and social and academic pressure.

First, difficulty controling emotions can be interpreted as a person's inability to control the influence of emotional stimuli. things that can trigger unstable emotions are lack of sleep, hormonal changes, and a history of poor mental health.

Secondly, lack of physical activity refers to a life style that involves little or no physical activity. this can have negative impacts an health, such as increasing the risk of obesity. People who are obese often get bad comments from others, this can interfere with a person's mental health.

And finally, social and academic pressure is the pressure or expectation given by society, family, teachers, or friends to meet certain standards or norms. social and academic pressure can have a major impact on mental health such as prolonged anxiety due to fear of not being able to meet these expectations or demands.

Based on the statement above, mental health disorders are condition that affects a person's thoughts, feelings, and behavior. so that it can interfere with the quality of life and daily activities. mental health disorders are caused by difficulty controlling emotions, lack of physical activity, and social and academic pressures. if mental health disorders are left alone without proper treatment, the condition will get worse.

Gender Inequality In Indonesia

Gender Inequality In Indonesia
By : Isabel Savira
Accepted Date : 22 May 2025

Gender inequality is the difference in behavior between men and woman based on gender. Women are often considered weak and incapable, so their opportunities are limited. For example, many women do not receive  proper education. women are seen as unable and struggle to get jobs .women often getting discrimination in the work place .there fore,it is important for society to eliminate negative stigmas against women

First, many women do not get proper education. They are often seen as people who should just stay at home, so going to school is not a priority. In fact, education is important for everyone’s future, including women.

Second, women are often seen as not capable of working. They have difficulty getting jobs because people think they are weak or not suitable for certain positions. However, many women actually have the same skills and potential as men. For example, many women become doctors, engineers, company leaders, and even presidents. This shows that women can also succeed if they are given the same opportunities.

Third, women often experience discrimination at work. They are paid less, not trusted with important positions, and sometimes treated unfairly. This makes them feel unsafe and unappreciated.

In conclusion, gender inequality toward women in Indonesia is still a real problem. Women often do not get proper education, have difficulty finding jobs, and experience discrimination in the workplace. In fact, women have the same potential as men. Therefore, it is important for all of us to respect women and give them equal opportunities in all areas of life.

The Increasingly Worrying Impact of Global Climate Change on Indonesia

The Increasingly Worrying Impact of
Global Climate Change on Indonesia
By : Annisa Fitri
Accepted Date : 20 May 2025

Climate change is a significant change in weather patterns, air temperature, rainfall. Climate change is caused by human activities, such as the increasing in greenhouse gas emissions, which leads to global warming. Global warming is the rise in temperature that causes changes in weather patterns, climate change, industrial and agricultural pollution, and harmful emissions such as methane from livestock. Currently, the average global temperature has increased significantly, especially in the last few decades. If this continues, it can cause negative effects, such as a decrease in the quality of agricultural products, a higher risk of natural disasters, and negative impacts on human health in Indonesia

First, climate change reduces the quality of agricultural products. Uncertain weather, such as longer dry seasons or excessive rainfall, makes it hard for crops to grow well. This causes poor harvests and affects food availability in Indonesia.

Second, climate change increases the risk of natural disasters. Higher temperatures can cause forest fires, floods, and landslides. Indonesia is an archipelago that is prone to disasters, so climate change makes people more vulnerable to major losses.

Third, climate change gives bad effects on human health. Hot air and rising pollution can cause diseases, such as respiratory infections and skin problems. Children and the elderly are the groups most easily affected by this impact.

Based on the statements above, global climate change gives real and dangerous impacts to Indonesia. It affects the quality of agricultural products, increases the risk of natural disasters, and brings threats to human health. Therefore, we all need to be more aware of and care about the environment. Small actions like reducing pollution and protecting nature are very important for a safer and healthier future.

The Government's Plan to Close Schools for One Month During Ramadan

The Government Plan to Give Students
a One-Month Break During Ramadan
By : Lois Agnesya Nur Hasanah
Accepted Date : 19 May 2025

The government’s policy of implementing school holiday during the month of Ramadhan can provide significant benefits for students, such as increasing the focus on worship for Muslim students without neglecting the confort of non-Muslim students, strengthening family bonds, and maintaining students’ stamina and health to remain optimal while fasting.

One, With holiday during Ramadhan, Muslim students can focus more on religious practices such as Tarawih prayers, reading the Qur’an, and fasting without the burden of school assignments. Meanwhile, non-Muslim students can also use this time to rest, develop their hobbies, or engage in activities that support their academic and personal growth.

Two, The Ramadan holiday provides an opportunity for students who live away from home both Muslim and non-Muslim to return to their hometowns and spend time with their families. Muslim students can perform religious activities such as sahur, Tarawih, and iftar with their families, while non-Muslim students can enjoy more quality time with their parents.

Three, Fasting while participating in a full academic schedule can drain students energy. A school holiday policy allows them to establish a better rest pattern, helping them stay healthy and fit throughout Ramadhan.

Seeing all the benefits, i believe that school holiday program during Ramadhan is quite good.  Student can focus more on worship and care of their families, in addition, non-muslim students can also use the holiday time for meaning full activities.

Lack Of Moral And Ethnic Awareness Among Teenagers

Lack Of Moral And Ethnic Awareness Among Teenagers
By : Ni Made Daivi Pujadewanthi
Accepted Date : 20 May 2025

Morals are about teachings good and bad that are generally accepting and assisting with ethics, which is the science that Studies moral principles. The moral and ethical awareness of the young generation of Indonesia is declining, this causes adverse effects for the Future of the nation. According to me, this problem can be a factor of lack of parental guidance, negative Influence Of social media, and the lack of emphasis on character education in Schools. I agree with the issue "Lack Of Moral And Ethical Awareness Among Teenagers" because uneducation environment ethics, technologies, and entry of Foreign culture.

Firstly an uneducation enviroment ethnic. The family environment is the first and main place for a teenager to learn about morals and ethics. However, in this modern era, many parents are too busy with work so that they pay less attention to the moral development of their children. This makes teenagers look for role model from the surrounding environment, especially peers. If they hang out with friends who have negative behavior, such as lying or committing reprehensible acts, then it is very likely that they will imitate this behavior. In addition, in some cases, families who do not provide good examples can also cause a weak moral awareness in teenagers, for example parents who often fight in front of their children.

Second a technologies. Social media often has a negative influence on the moral and ethical development of teenagers. One of the negative impacts of social media is the proliferation of uneducated content such as hate speech, hoaxes and dangerous challenges. In addition, many teenagers are willing to do unethical acts such as lying about their lives or following trends that are contrary to moral values just to get more "followers" and "likes". As a result, they are more concerned with their image in cyberspace than building good character in the real world.

Third an entry of foreign culture. The entry of foreign culture, especially through social media, greatly influences the lifestyle of Indonesian teenagers, including the way they dress. Many teenagers imitate western clothing styles that are revealing and less in accordance with Indonesian cultural norms of politeness. This reflects a lack of moral and ethical awareness where local values are starting to be ignored in order to follow trends. Foreign culture should be filtered wisely, not followed blindly. Without guidance from family, school, and the environment, teenagers can lose their identity. Therefore, it is important to instill moral and character education so that the younger generation can continue to follow the times without forgetting the culture and ethics of the nation.

The lack of moral and ethical awareness among teenagers is caused by limited parental guidance, negative influence of social media, and unfiltered foreign cultures. To overcome this, families, schools, and communities need to work together to instill ethical values. Parents need to be more attentive, schools strengthen character education, and teenagers are encouraged to wisely filter outside influences. With these efforts, the moral character of the young generation can be shaped well again.

Bullying is a repeated act of harm or intimidation by a student of group of students on a victimized student with a purpose of humiliating the victim. I agree that it has a negative impact for students who are victims because it affect the victim's mental health. Because of this the victim had difficulty managing them emotions, lost confident and enthusiasm to go to school.

The Negative Effects of Social Media on Teenagers

Excessive use of social media among teenagers can cause various negative effects, including an increased risk of mental health disorders. Teenagers often feel stressed to maintain an ideal image on social media platforms, which can can cause  feelings of insecurity. I agree that social media has negative effects on teenagers, such as cyberbullying, insecurity, and depression.

Firstly, Social media is often a place where cyberbullying occurs, threats in the form of negative massages or comments can appear anytime and anywhere, making it difficult for victims to avoid them. This continuous exposure not only makes teenagers feel afraid and depressed but also seriously damages their mental health. Research shows that victims of cyberbullying are at high risk of experiencing anxiety, depression, and even self-harm or suicide attempts. If not addressed promptly, the impact can interfere with their academic performance and social relationships.

Secondly, Social media can cause teenagers to feel insecure, especially regarding their physical appearance. Many teenagers compare their looks to unrealistic beauty standards on social media, which makes them feel inadequate and insecure. Research in Cimahi shows that social media has a significant negative impact on self-confidence related to body image. Many teenage girls feel pressured when they receive negative comments or criticism after posting photos or videos showing their physical appearance. This lack of confidence can lead to stress and serious emotional disorders, and in some cases, even result in self-harm or suicide attempts due to the pressure and negative comments on social media.

Thirdly, Excessive use of social media can trigger depression in teenagers. Many teenagers feel stressed and sad after receiving hurtful or degrading comments on their social media accounts. This pressure causes them to lose confidence and feel unappreciated. Research shows that teenagers who frequently receive negative comments are at a higher risk of experiencing depression and mental disorders.

Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that excessive use of social media has a negative impact on teenagers. Cyberbullying, insecurity, and depression are real threats that must be taken seriously. Therefore, teenagers need guidance so that they can use social media wisely.

The Negative Impact of Fast Fashion FOMO Behavior on Indonesian Teenagers in the Social Media Era

The Negative Impact of Fast Fashion FOMO Behavior on
Indonesian Teenagers in the Social Media Era

Are you familiar with the word FOMO? In short, FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out is the fear of feeling "left behind" for not following certain trends. One of the causes of FOMO is the use of social media. The development of technology today makes it easy for us to be influenced by the latest trends. Currently, fast fashion is one of the trends that is popular among teenagers. Fast fashion is a term used by the textile industry for various fashion models that change in a very short time and uses poor quality raw materials, so it is not durable. Fast fashion is favored by teenagers because the models are always up to date with current fashion trends. However, as a teenager, i agree that fast fashion causes many negative impacts on Indonesian teenagers. Fast fashion often causes environmental damage, consumptive culture, and insecurity among teenagers, which is bad for their mental health.

Firstly, FOMO fast fashion behavior among Indonesian teenagers contributes significantly to environmental damage. The urge to keep buying cheap and trendy clothes in a rapid cycle results in textile waste that pollutes the environment, overuse of natural resources, and unethical production practices. According to the Global Fashion Agenda 2023, the fashion industry accounts for 92 million tons of clothing waste that accumulates in landfills every year. (“Fashion Waste Haunts The World, Recycled Fashion Increasingly Favored”, 2024). Indonesian teenagers who follow fast fashion trends are often unaware of the negative impacts they cause. Thus, fast fashion will indirectly accelerate future environmental degradation.

Secondly, The FOMO fast fashion consumptive culture among Indonesian teenagers has intensified in the social media era, where incentive promotions, viral trends and digital social pressure encourage impulsive buying behavior to keep up with the latest trends. Recent research shows that exposure to digital social media drives cross-cultural marketing strategies significantly increases consumptive behavior and hedonism in Indonesian teens, with hedonism being the main factor that amplifies teens’ emotional engagement with fast fashion products (“The Influence of Social Media and Cross Cultural Marketing on Gen Z’s Impulsive Buying of Fast Fashion with Level of Hedonism as Meditation”, 2025). This phenomenon not only impacts financial waste, but also reinforces a culture of consumerism that displaces local values and accelerates the adoption of westernized lifestyle among Indonesian teenagers.

Thirdly, Insecurity among Indonesian teenagers is increasing in the context of a fast fashion consumptive culture driven by the FOMO phenomenon in the social media era. Social media accelerates the spread of fast-changing fashion trends, so teenagers feel afraid of being outdated if they don't follow the trends, even though the trends don't always match their personal style. This fear triggers an emotional need to buy fast fashion products to be considered “up to date” and accepted in their social circle, which in turn creates insecurity about their self-image. A recent study showed that although teenagers have high social awareness of the negative impact of fast fashion, this does not significantly reduce their consumption patterns; they still choose to buy fast fashion products to fit in with the latest trends ("The Effect Of Youth Social Awareness On Fast Fashion Clothing Consumption Policies: A Study on Teenagers in Bandung City", 2024).

The FOMO phenomenon encourages Indonesian teenagers to follow the fast-changing fashion trends. Fast fashion has many negative impacts, including causing environmental damage, a bad consumptive culture, and the emergence of insecurity in teenagers. Although teenagers are aware of the negative impacts of fast fashion, this awareness is not enough to change their consumption patterns. Therefore, it is important for teenagers to be wiser in following trends so as not to harm the environment for the sake of their mental health.

Mental Health is Good for Teens

Mental Health is Good for Teens
By : Raissa Salwa Salsabila
Accepted Date : 15 May 2025

Adolescent mental health is a condition of psychological distress in adolescents. Adolescent mental health problems can have a serious impact on their social, academic and future lives. Many adolescents experience difficulties interacting with others, difficulty concentrating on their studies, and thoughts of self-harm. As a teenager, I feel that we have an important role in taking care of our own mental health. The reasons why I agree with teenagers having good mental health are firstly the importance of education, secondly social life, and thirdly increasing productivity.

First, I would like to discuss the importance of education. Good mental health is an important foundation for academic success. Mentally healthy teens are able to focus, concentrate and manage the stress associated with the demands of education. Mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression can impair cognitive abilities, leading to learning difficulties, lowered achievement and even dropping out of school. By maintaining mental health, adolescents can maximize their academic potential, achieve their educational goals, and prepare themselves for a successful future. A clear example of the importance of education for good mental health is the case of Malala Yousafzai, who fought for education in Pakistan despite facing threats of violence. She showed that education not only provides knowledge, but also strengthens mental health, reduces anxiety, gives a sense of empowerment (overcoming life challenges) and psychological support.

Secondly, I would like to explain the importance of social life. Good mental health enables adolescents to build and maintain healthy and meaningful relationships with family, friends and others. Mentally healthy adolescents have better social skills, are able to communicate effectively, empathize and resolve conflicts in healthy ways. Strong social support from family and friends is essential for adolescents' mental well-being. Conversely, mental health problems can lead to social isolation, loneliness and relationship difficulties. A living example of a social life that supports mental health is Raisa Andriana, who is active in various ways about the importance of family and friend support in maintaining mental health. Raisa shows that having positive social relationships can help overcome emotional challenges.

The last or third is to increase productivity. Good mental health increases adolescent productivity in various aspects of life. Mentally healthy teens are able to manage their time, set goals and complete tasks efficiently. Mental health disorders can lead to decreased motivation, difficulty concentrating, and procrastination, which negatively impact productivity.
By taking care of their mental health, teens can increase their productivity in studying, working, and participating in extracurricular activities, thus maximizing their overall potential. A real-life example of improving productivity for mental health is Ziva Magnolya, a young singer who in addition to focusing on her music career, Ziva also takes care of her mental health by regularly exercising and organizing time for rest. With this balance, she is able to stay productive and avoid excessive stress.

So, in summary, adolescent mental health is a condition of psychological distress that can have serious consequences. Mental health in adolescents greatly affects their educational success, quality of social relationships, and productivity levels. This suggests that psychological stability is an important part of an adolescent's overall development. Mental health disorders can hinder academic achievement, complicate social relationships, and decrease effectiveness in various activities, while a good mental state allows adolescents to live a more balanced and optimal life.

The Impact of Lack of Facilities in Remote Schools in Indonesia

The Impact of Lack of Facilities
in Remote Schools in Indonesia

The light of learning facilities in remote schools in Indonesia is big problem. Refers to the limitations or in insufficiency of etiquette facilities and infrastructure, such as study rooms that are not suitable for use, and rooms that are no longer habitable. So the teaching and learning process is hamoered. I think this has negative impacts, such as a lack of effectiveness in learning low quality of education and low interest in learning in Indonesia.

First the lack of learning facilities in remote schools in Indonesia has an impact on the ineffectiveness of learning. According to data from Central Bureau of Statistics in 2020 as many as 27.6% of students in Indonesia do not have access to adequate learning facilities. Furthermore a study  conducted by the Indonesian University of education or UPI in 2019 revealed that students attending schools with sufficient facilities tend to out  perform their peers in schools with inadequate facilities, with average score increase of 15,6%.

Second, the quality of education is also impacted. According to data from the programmer for international study assessment or PISA in 2018, Indonesia ranked 73 out of 78 countries in terms of education quality issues. Furthermore research conducted by Balitbang Kemendikbud in 2020 round that schools in remote areas have lower education quality compared to schools in urban areas.

Lastly, low learning interest. According to data from BPS in 2020, revealed that 44,1%  of Indonesian students lack a strong interest in learning. This indicates that the learning interests of students in Indonesia is still low. Furthermore a study conducted by the state university of Malang or UM in 2019 found the students who learn in schools with educate facilities have a higher interest in learning compare to students who learn in schools with inadequate facilities.

Many remote schools in Indonesia lack proper learning facilities, leading to low learning effectiveness, poor education quality, and low student interest. Therefore, the government needs to provide adequate and quality learning facilities in these schools.

Domestic violence against children and teenagers is a serious issue that needs to be addressed to ensure that every child can achieve their dreams, comfort experience and safety in life and to prevent the formation of a mindset that sees violence as something in normal.

First, in order that every children can achieve their dreams; Domestic violence (DV) against children can hinder their potential to grow. Children who have violence often lose confidence, feel powerless, and struggle to focus on education or personal development. According to UNICEF, children who grow up in violent environments are more likely to have emotional and mental disorders that can limit their opportunities to achieve their dreams. When children are given a supportive environment, they can develop optimally, enhance their talents, and fulfill their dreams. For example in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, in December 2023, four children age between 1 and 6 years were found dead murdered by their father, panca. This case highlights the slow response of the police in handling domestic violence even though there had been previous reports of violence against the perpetrator’s wife.

Second, every children can live in safety and comfort, children need safe and loving environment to grow into physically and emotionally healthy individuals. Domestic violence creates fear, anxiety, and even deep trauma. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), children who feel unsafe at home have a higher risk of having anxiety disorders, depression, and difficulties in building healthy social relationships. One example occurred in October 2023, when a 7 year old boy, identified as DN, was abused in Kedungkandang District, Malang City. DN was tortured by five family members, his biological father, stepmother, stepbrother, uncle, and step grandmother. This abuse lasted for six months, causing DN physical injuries and deep trauma.

Third, domestic violence can make children see violence as normal way, potentially continuing the cycle of violence. Children learn from what they see and have when they grow up in a violent environment, they tend to internalize violence as a normal way to resolve conflicts. Research from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that children who are victims of domestic violence have higher risk of becoming violent perpetrators in adulthood or choosing abusive partners, continuing the cycle of intergenerational violence. For example, on June 29th 2022, the online media Kompas reported a tragic case in Gorontalo, where a 5 year old child was tortured to death by his stepmother, step grandmother, and biological father. This incident happened in a rented house on Mangggis Street, Gorontalo City. The background of the case was the parents past experiences, as they had also suffered from violence before.

By reducing domestic violence against children. We give them a chance to have a brighter future, ensure a save and comfrotable life, and help break the cycle of violence in society.

The Lack of Proper Attitudes Among Teenagers Has Led to a High Rate of Bullying

The Lack of Proper Attitudes Among Teenagers
Has Led to a High Rate of Bullying

Attitude is the study of values, norms, and moral principles that shape human character. In this modern era, many teenagers don't have good attitudes due to a lack of education about attitude, unhealthy social environments, and the influence of social media, which has brought many changes to human life. This also negatively impacts to the high rate of bullying among teenagers.

First, the lack of education about attitude. If education is not applied in everyday life, it can lead to an increasing in rude behavior, dishonesty, and a lack of sense of responsibility. For example, in schools, ethical education is not taught in depth, even though we have the "Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila" (P5) program, which teaches moral values and the principles of Pancasila. However, this program has not been running well due to various reasons, one of which is the lack of teachers understanding of P5, which becomes an obstacle in implementing the project. Without education about attitude, individuals tend to prioritize personal interests without considering the impact on others, which can ultimately damage social harmony and moral order.

Second, an unhealthy social environment is a factor in the lack of attitude among teenagers because in such an environment, social norms and values are often ignored. The result of unhealthy social interactions frequently leads to various incidents, one of which is student brawls, such as those that occurred in Jakarta, involving students from two different schools. The brawl was triggered by a trivial issue but ended in violence, causing several students to be injured. This case illustrates that an unhealthy social environment can provoke acts of violence and harm both oneself and others. The lack of supervision and guidance from families, as well as weak social control, can worsen the situation, making teenagers more easily influenced without realizing the negative impacts. This, in turn, can shape a generation that is less concerned with ethical values.

Third, the influence of social media. Social media has a significant impact on teenagers behavior, including their attitudes and manners. It has become a platform where bullying cases have increased due to anonymity, rapid information spread, reduced empathy, and the growing culture of cancel culture. People can easily express hatred or publicly humiliate others, often causing victims to suffer severe mental pressure. A real-life case is the bullying had by K-Pop singer Sulli, who received hateful comments for years due to being considered controversial in her opinions and performance. The immense social pressure from netizens eventually contributed to her death in 2019, serving as a major warning about the dangerous effects of cyberbullying. This case demonstrates that without awareness and stricter regulations, social media will continue to be a harmful weapon. If left uncontrolled, it could lead to moral decline and increasing cases of cyberbullying.

The lack of ethics among teenagers is one of the main factors contributing to the rise in bullying cases. Teenagers who are not taught the importance of respecting others tend to act arbitrarily toward their peers. As a result, behaviors such as underestimate, humiliate, and even verbal or physical violence are becoming more common, creating an unsafe environment.
